It Moved Along With Door

When I saw this snail I thought of the slug in The Everyday Adventurer. Why the slug is smart enough to travel without carrying any shell, but not this snail?

I intended to take its picture when I found the snail in the bush. Somehow the traffic had distracted me from my mission. I marked the place, and came back 5 minutes later. I first thought it should not move far away within this short period, but the snail was lost now. Only then I discovered that some snails can move up to 55 meter per hour.

Luckily I managed to find it later on the middle of the pathway.

Having a close interaction, I could not stop laughing. This poor little snail carried its door when it was away from home. No smuggler could ever able to break-in, I strongly believe that!

I watched and ensured this poor little thing was safely back to the bush again before I made my move.

And before making my move, I would like to share with you what I have googled: "Our life is like the little snail, where we go we leave a trail. The things we do and the things we say, are the trail we leave from day to day."

55m per hour - He must be Usain Bolt of the snails :)

This is cute !

55 mph is amazing. I had no idea they moved that fast. I actually like his shell coloring. For being a slimy little guy he's kind of cute.

this reminds me of the snails i badly wanted to photograph that morning and I didn't have the camera with me!

55mph...so fast!

Kirigalpoththa: 55m/hour, means about 1meter/min. It can be Bolt of the snails.

Chay: I have never known that as well. This is the fastest some of them can go, I do not think this one is able to.

Poetic Shuuterbug: Hope you are not thinking that 55 mph is 55 miles per hour. Otherwise I should have kidded you.

Ayie: 55 mph, dangerous fast. It must not able to hold the brake.

Learn something new today from you! 55mph is a pretty good speed, and the quote you find, is wonderful!

I too have noticed that some snails do move much faster than we think. Probably they're having their own version of jet boosters. =D

And that speed got me curious.. gotta measure and see if I come across a snail over here. =D

i love the quote, rainfield. some people need to gain wisdom from the snail.

Your snail was a quick one too, like my slug. I'm glad you found it again, because your pictures are great. On the internet too, our life is like a snail, and our blogs and comments are our trail.

if we are like that, carry our door everywhere we go, we will feel very secure. i always forget if I have locked the door etc haha

Mei Teng: No matter how, we shall reach there....

Icy BC: I love this simple but meaningful quote.

Harumi: You have to follow their speed in order to get the feel for it.

cherie: The things we do and the things we say, are the trail we leave from day to day. That's great.

Ratty: You described very well on what I have thought of.

Bengbeng: That's a great idea. Then there will be a new service to be offered to help carrying the door.

Such a cute post!
Only a blogger would study a slug and measure how far it went and take two pictures of it to make it famous! LOL

wow, different angle, different position, for different moves. i love the quote you give us for today rainfield, about our life being a trail.

No wonder a snail can beat rabbit in a 100m race.

Cool captures. We have very similar ones here. Amazing how our faunas are so similar.

Wonderful that you admired and connected with such character of a snail. :) Your quote is most true. I used to have a habit of doing that, watching snails until they got to their destination. (Within different periods of my life) Now I no longer do, just say Hi as I wander past them. (Say hi to everyone and everything)

Hi Rainfield,

Such beautiful words to juxtapose the snail's inner strengths of speed and helplessness at the same time! Great blogging on the poetic beauty of nature!!!

Best wishes,
