Pill Millipede

I met a new friend when hiking at Penang Hill. It was thought to be a kind of ball shape of seed initially, but this is its reaction to danger actually.

It is named pill millipede, a not-quite-sweet name. Nobody likes pill.

We were friend finally, because no matter how much I poked or scratched its back, it just kept crawling.

I laid a piece of leaf, wanting it to climb at a small angle aiming to shoot its front view, it always avoided.

Until I had lost my patience, it managed to prove that I did not have the quality of a good photographer.

Only a good friend tells the truth.

I was going to tell you that we call them roly-poly's but someone beat me to it. My children and grandchildren enjoy them.

I like that you notice small things like this bug. I go too fast and never see these things myself.

Isn't it nice to have a new friend? You did great coaxing him to crawl on the leaf.

Back in the last century, my children made friends with similar bugs quite regularly. (In Oregon we called them rolly-polys.) My little ones loved to find them in the garden and make them curl up and uncurl. I have found more than one in pockets when I did the laundry. That is why I am a woman who is not squeamish about bugs and snakes and worms and such things -- I have seen them all and found most of them in my sons' pockets !!
