I thought I was a scouting soldier when looking at these soldier termites, but if starting a war, I might not be the winner; further more, a forest is indeed their respectful territory for not to be disturbed.
I rather be myself, or I may likely lost in the midst of libraries of books again dreaming that I am an intellectual too. I am still myself even years of talking to bugs and trees.
I never grow an enlarged jaw like soldier termites do, and never be as blind as them. When looking into the mirror, I am very much enjoy and comfortable to be Rainfield- a little gaga old man.
Goosebumps seemed to grow to the number of termites on my body. I watched my steps for not landing myself onto the nest, and for not being fastened to the ground, as had happened to Gulliver, in 1726; the termites were then the Lilliputians who were no taller than 6 inches.
I come and I go. I shall be influenced and changed unobtrusively and imperceptibly.

I'm glad your comfortable with yourself and your jaw isn't growing like one of those soldiers! Wow, I can see they're keeping busy..on your premises? Well I sure hope you politley offered them some Cedar wood and lit yourself a cigar.. perhaps chewing a little tobacco would be more appropriate?
why you want to be a soldier. Nothing is good enough for me except to be a queen. LOL, then to be eaten by stupid men from Singapore .
The "little gaga old man" should have been the commander in chief for this army of termites.
Your photos are always intriguing!
Great macro. Have a nice day.
ha i remember that Gulliver story...and good you were careful..smiles
i find termites and ants totally fascinating with their unwritten laws and orders..
a bit of whimsy to accompany your photos. glad they are in the forest and not in your home!
march...march...march...Nice shot of them working hard.
Hope you dont bring any of them home or soon your home will be invaded by these seemingly harmless little creatures...destroyer of homes! Talking thru' my own experience!
I hope you found these soldier termites in the forest and not near your home. While I'm glad you're happy being a 'little gaga old man', I think you would have made a fine leader for this army.
I am glad you posted these pictures. I never saw a termite before.
Beautiful macro photos!
Have a wonderful week!
They look vicious with their big heads!
Did you also see a 'Lady Gaga' performance by the termites?
I just learnt that when it rains, the flying insects that invade our homes are termites! There are plenty of things that human soldiers can learn from termite soldiers.
boy i hope they weren't crawling on you! they sure look different from our termites.
Soldier termites sound dangerous. I wouldn't want them crawling on me.
Termite? Dangerous and silence killer!
WOW, great shots Rainfield! They kind of give me chills though.
I wonder what kind of conversation you had with those soldiers.
There are many more soldier termites and only one of you. It would be a losing battle so step carefully around their camp and hopefully they didn't notice you.
Yup, I have seen thousands of termites, before we realized what all the buzzing was about (nature's internet--grin?), plus a few thousand bucks later, we are free of them--for today.
I hope they are happy back in the woods. And me, too...love to study them, and ants. We could maybe learn from them SO much--or maybe we DID!
I got goosebumps too when I saw those pictures. To see them big in those photos with lots of details is scary enough how much more if I see a real nest.
Nothing wrong with talking to trees and bugs in my humble opinion..
great shots and great little creatures
Thanks
Leontien
Was smiling to myself when reading the post... you really have to watch your steps with these guys, didn't you? :)
I love your descriptions of yourself, rainfield! You always find such interesting creatures to photograph. Soldier termites...I wonder at how descructive they can be...but that is their life...and the way of the jungle.
