Weaver Ant's Nest

I heard chirping here, tweeting there, and twittering there though I was not an expert to differentiate or identify them. Though was not an expert, the corner of my eye is usually more powerful and useful than my normal eyes.

I have sensed something up above a tree, but was it a bird among the green?

(I bet Icy must have known the answer. She used to go through the pictures before going into the writing.)

This is a closer view. It must be some sort of nest belonged to weaver ants. These ants had travelled so high for their new found kingdom; luckily their office was not on the ground floor, or they must have difficulty to press any buttons in an elevator.

Oh no, it was a bird. But who was it?

It turned its head to tell me it was a pigeon. What an interesting encounter!

I was as happy as a millionaire by now to have discovered and captured my lifer, this one-foot length pigeon.

Green pigeon is a common species in rainforest and similar dense wet woodlands, but it is totally not common to me who used to jog-and-go all the times.

And I beg your pardon for the wrong title.

  1. I must admit that I didn't know what it was at first, so I thought your title referred to some exotic creature you encountered on your hike. But congratulations on your seeing the green pigeon.

  3. I seriously thought it was a nest! lol

Your sequence of pics gives us a chance to solve a mystery. But am no Sherlock Holmes, not just yet. =D

Great discovery! And this is my first time seeing a green pigeon. Ours are usually grayish blue.. and smaller too.

  5. Rainfield I would take the bird over any form of ant. The red ones here pack a hefty punch if they bite you-they do frequently if you disturb them.

  9. George:
So I managed to confuse you at first. An the exotic creature is that Green pigeon by now.

    Sharodindu:
I think the same earlier. Yet have not seen does not mean it never exists.
Glad to see you are back.

    Harumi:
I hope I am Sherlock Holmes. I love mysteries.
Grayish blue pigeons can be found in my neighborhood as well. They are ready to "bomb" you at any time.

    Diane:
Glad that you have been a friend of the pigeon.

    Mike:
I was bitten by one over last weekend when I tried to pluck mangoes. Luckily my saliva helped to remove the pain.

    Kirigalpoththa:
Though common but it is only my lifer by now. It hides itself so well among the green leaves.

    eileeninmd:
Thanks. From the pigeon and me.

    Icy:
Sorry for that: I always have the problem to enlarge my pictures. It must be due to the template.
By the way, I am glad we both have consensus. .. ... ....

  10. one foot long pigeon, must be the cousin of the wood pigeon here. I got a photo but only as a silhouette. It is a protected bird here.

You come here to visit before all the land is dug up?

    Mei Teng:
It is certainly a different species but must be a cousin or nephew of them.

    Life Ramblings:
I'll bring you there if you find some time. LOL.

Fly back to Penang, look down from the plane, you may see one.

  15. The title is delightfully deceptive. It shows that you were not sure what you saw at first. But then you gave us a surprise of the best kind. The same thing happened to me today. I saw a flash of yellow in a tree with yellow leaves. Mine turned out to be a bird too.

  18. I have never seen a green pigeon. It is well camouflaged in the tree. He/She does not have to worry about finding an elevator to reach the top.

  20. I thought it was a bird at first, it reminded me somewhat of a mourning dove. A foot long bird? Amazing find indeed!

  21. So you switched from being a Martian to Sherlock Holmes? lol

Really? Guess they might be all too common. And what made you think they'd bomb? O__O Cuz.. pigeons especially the white doves are a symbol of peace, aren't they? =D
